Principles of Ice Resurfacing

Ice Resurfacing for medium size Ice Rinks is a need but has not an end in itself!

Ice Resurfacers are expensive in purchase/rent in relation to the size of the Ice Rink and the time of use. Doing nothing is also not an option. What are the solutions to have good ice surface and less cost?

Manual ice resurfacing

For Ice Rinks operating 4 to 6 weeks, finally the best value for money is Ice resurfacing by hand: Snow scraping by hand or Burning on demand (e.g. 2 x during the day and after closing). After scraping the "snow": putting on the surface fresh water for freezing ALU scraper with 1,20 "blade" makes it easy and fast to scrap manually the snow. After collecting the snow putting of water and level the Ice by freezing. It works very well!!! Just for your Attention: It is no cutting of Ice, Ice will increase and increase, but for 6 weeks fine; 10 or 12 cm of Ice needs more electricity for the Chiller, but Ice will be fine.

Manual Ice Burners, flame the Ice and level it. It is the smarter solution and needs less water to level.

But it also cannot withstand water from rain. So the

Process of Ice growing happens too, but slower, because you put just minor water on the surface to level it.

The burner works with gas, has 800 mm working wide, 78,4 KW burning power (a lot!). You pull the burner manually over the ice field. After ten minutes your Ice field is like new.

Normally it shall be done 2 x a day and after closing of the Ice Rink.

In case you operate an Ice rink longer than 2 months and you want to cut the ice, you can also use the Edger, which is normally used for cutting out of the ice at the dash board. Edger has a rotating blade to cut out Ice. Edger has petrol/LPG engine or also electric ones. The edger cut around 2mm in one step with a milling width of around 322 mm. Finally just to work manually, it is of course a bigger job than working with Machine Ice Resurfacer, and less smart; but for Ice quality it is a minor issue.

In case you have the right Ice field model, levelled underground and effective Chiller, your Ice will be always great!

It is a full equipped Ice Resurfacer for Ice Rink sizes of up to 1.200 m². It is still not an Ice Resurfacer for 30 x 60 Ice Rinks, but with professional Ice quality and value for money!!
