Solkav CoEX technology was developed in 2 directions:

1. To act as a solar turbo absorber beyond the already large solar yield of the solar absorber. It addresses all operational behaviour, as is usual in public pools with regard to the chlorination behaviour (controlled and chlorination according to solar system).

2. As a long-term “workhorse” that withstands all "hostility" of chemistry, for the private pool owner.

In the private pool area, we use TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) as the base material. With the CoEX technology, we achieve the same flexibility properties as with EPDM, so the same type of laying, simple bonding and integration also in EXISTING systems. The disadvantage of EPDM, that it cannot always withstand special chemical influences over many years, is eliminated! Chlorination, however, shock chlorination, etc. no problem. The UV resistance is comparable to EPDM, so it is also carefree from this point of view.

The solar effect

The Solkav CoEX was developed in a 2-year research project with Aachen University and our EPDM primary material manufacturer. The project was examined by the German Ministry of Research and approved for funding. The developed product of the Solkav CoEX was tested in its solar effect and the thermal conductivity and was released for use in January 2015. With the Solar CoEX you increase the solar effect by approx. 20% or can reduce the area used accordingly.

The greatly improved short-wave absorption / UV absorption of the outer layer of the absorber is caused by unique, special pigments. The UV irradiation, which cannot be converted with conventional solar absorbers, can for the first time also be used to gain heat and not only be "fended off"

With the tangible result of the warmer swimming pool, the effect is most evident at the beginning and end of the season. In relation to the entire summer season, the improvement is an average of 20%.

Service life


The significantly increased temperature tolerance of the solar absorber for long periods of up to 100 ° C, which occur due to long maximum temperature periods or high summer periods due to high outside temperatures or covers and domes, which now occur over a large area, extend the service life of the solar absorber system.


During development, care was taken to ensure that all raw materials are approved according to REACH and RoHS compliant without nitrosamine-forming accelerators.

Simplified design


Due to the high solar yield and wind resistance, the Solkav CoEX can also be operated without its own solar control and 3-way valve/pump when it is not in the shade and simply run with the filter pump during the day (without significant cooling losses in the event of bad weather).


You can save significant investment funds in the private pool area. A more expensive solar absorber becomes a cost-effective overall solution!

Indoor pool use or outdoor pool with temperature guarantee | Range extender concept

Basic solar effect:

In the indoor pool area, the use of solar energy is extended by 2 months at the seasonal edges thanks to the greatly improved use of solar energy. This means that indoor swimming pools can be heated to around 48% solar with the solar absorber.

Range Extender:                                         

With the range extender add-on (small, highly efficient, compact heat pump station), which switches on at night or when the solar radiation is too weak and brings the solar absorber heat to the useful temperature (40 ° C) with the heat pump / range extender, 80 - 85% of the pool heat is generated. Solkav has approx. 20 large systems installed across Europe. The range extender solution is a slimmed-down, industrial (and therefore cost-effective) and not individually manufactured solution, with which swimming pool heating is achieved at attractive investment funds.


In summer, it stabilizes the pool water temperature with the lowest possible amount of electrical energy.
