Concept of the green energy update

The climate issue is becoming more and more of an investment decision driver. It is no more politically accepted just to have an ice rink for fun. 

Without minimising the non renewable energy input

Without heat recuperation and use at site

Without using the “waste space” of e.g., roof

The more electric cars become the norm, the more sense it makes to combine solar pool heating and photovoltaic into one system to avoid “cannibalisation”. 

Currently, photovoltaic and heat pump technology is not very attractive, from a cost perspective, to be used for energy production. 


But it is VERY ATTRACTIVE to be used as an integrated concept for something that is a high energy consumer. 

SOLKAV, since the 1990s, has been a pioneer in integrated systems. Ice chilling heat recovery and double use of sports surface (Sport Solar: In Summer a solar plant and in Winter an ice rink).

To heat a swimming pool with solar requires a roof surface of about the same size as the pool. Often there is more roof space than needed. We install our solar absorber system on the roof as a perfect, cost effective heating system.  To make this system even better:

To double the investment, add the SOLKAV Hybrid PV foil on the absorber system

Enlarge the area by 50% to compensate the “solar loss” to PV.

Enjoy the more efficient PV system - because the pool solar “cool” the PV system

Solar system for pools

The best part of this system is its triple use in the same space. 

Available space is always an expensive issue. Roofs for solar systems can be used for PV so it is better to double up the use around the pool.

In this case it is a soft, non slip surface for kids and adults. It never gets too hot as stone surfaces can. It can be easily cleaned with high pressure water. Its solar effect is only 20% less efficient than roof solutions!

Wasting floor space for both, one space for an ice rink and another just for sports is luxury. By using the same space for sports and ice, you save 50% on space! The Sport Solar tartan surface has no restrictions compared to a pure tartan track.

You can use it as: tennis court, badminton court, basketball court, etc. Ultimately also as a multi-purpose sports area.

Triple use means 3 shoulders to bear the weight of investment and the option to save energy.
